WIO-ECSN Country Coordinator (Mauritius)

Dr. Deepeeka Kaullysing is the WIO-ECSN Country Coordinator for Mauritius. She is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Biosciences and Ocean Studies, Faculty of Science, University of Mauritius. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Marine Science and Technology from the University of Mauritius and MSc in Marine Science from Goa University, India, for which she was awarded the Commonwealth Scholarship/Fellowship Plan Scheme (2011/2012). Miss D Kaullysing is currently pursuing a PhD in Marine Malacology at the University of Mauritius under the Mauritius Research Council Postgraduate Award. She is also involved as a principal investigator or investigator in several projects dealing with marine molluscs, marine plankton, corals, mangroves, macroalgae, and climate change. She contributes actively in capacity-building in the WIO region. She has developed and serviced several Continuous Professional Development programmes and training courses, and has also organized numerous dissemination events targeting the young enthusiasts and other stakeholders working for the protection of the marine fauna and flora. During her leadership, Miss D Kaullysing plans to attract and encourage the involvement of more early career scientists in the field of Marine Science from Mauritius. She considers the WIO-ECSN as a platform where such scientists can gain visibility and are provided with opportunities to share their research work/experience and extend their network.
